| We know what you really want this Mother's Day. Because we are mothers too and want the same thing.
You want a world that focuses on creating peace for your children, not war. A world that does not put your children at risk for violence at home or abroad. You want a day that will hold up the vision of a future for your children where they are safe, first and foremost.
In the words spoken 140 years ago by Julia Ward Howe in her Mother's Day Proclamation:
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. We, the women of one country, Will be too tender of those of another country To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.
OK, flowers cards and brunch make us feel special and honored. But Mother's Day was not originally designed as a day to honor the work of mothers.
It was created 140 years ago as a day for mothers, then without a voice and without a vote, to speak out against war and to stand for peace.
Help us return Mother's Day as it was truly intended by originator Julia Ward Howe. Explore our website and find out how you can become involved.
